Marriott Devalues Their Award Chart

Today Marriott announced a devaluation to their award chart taking effect on bookings made on May 16, 2013 or later. It is good that they let us know before hand so if we do have some points we can use them to get better value out of them before the points needed for a free night changes. They created a new Category 9 which includes a few hotels in London, Paris and New York among some others and those will be 45,000 points per night. A little more than one-third of Marriott's properties are going up in points to redeem for a free night. The old award chart is here, so if you want to try to use points at a better value, book a room before May 16. The new award chart is below.

As Gary from "View from the Wing" points out here, Marriott hasn't always given you the heads up on devaluations, so at least they are informing us about the changes prior to actually making them. In the next couple days I will show you how to sign up for Marriott rewards if you aren't already and tell you how you can earn and burn those points once you do get them.
