Honeymooning in Mexico
Today is the first guest blog from Rhett Sandusky talking about him and his wife Brandee's experience with taking their honeymoon to Playa Del Carmen, Mexico. Rhett is a real estate agent in the greater Baton Rouge area. If you are ever looking for a house or just to rent in this area, give him a call or visit his website.
The options of a honeymoon are endless. From different countries to different resorts, it makes for a pretty tough decision. My wife and I knew we wanted to be in the Caribbean and also knew we had a budget. After looking at a long list of options, we decided on an all inclusive resort called El Dorado Maroma in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico. We had an awesome time so I thought I’d share a little bit about the things we liked at the resort.

The Accommodations
Our room was great. We decided to get the Honeymoon Suite which included a king size bed, couch, love seat, a balcony looking over the resort and beach, a Jacuzzi tub, and an inside and outside shower. It was very well kept and we never had any complaints. The room service was on top of things from bringing us food when we wanted, cleaning the room while we were out, and keeping our mini fridge stocked.

Dining
Rather than having to leave the resort or buy groceries for our meals, the resort had four different dining restaurants to choose from as well as 24-hour room service. Two of the restaurants were open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They contained a variety of different foods to choose from and of course it was all you can eat. The other two restaurants were open for dinner only and they were fine dining. One restaurant served Asian cuisine so it was the go to place for sushi or shrimp fried rice. The other restaurant served Italian cuisine. Both had a pretty strict dress code so it really did make you feel special to get all dressed up and go out to eat; even if it was a short walk from the room. We did prefer one restaurant over the others simply because it had everything we wanted; eggs benedict, French toast, pizza, chips and salsa, duck, steak, chicken, etc. Although we preferred one, all were delicious!

Amenities
One thing we really liked about the resort was the size along with it being an adult only resort. There are only 99 rooms and everyone staying must be 19 or older; which means no over crowded areas and no children running around. It really added to the tranquility and relaxation of things. The resort had 2 main pools to choose from and both had swim up bars. Of course there was the beach to lay out on with beautiful, blue water, which we frequented. Some other fun leisure activities was a big chess or checker board, a ping pong table, a gym, and a spa to sit in a sauna or get a massage. When arriving we received a schedule of events taking place throughout the week that all guest were invited to attend. There was water aerobics, bingo, trivia, volleyball games, yoga classes, cooking classes, and even a couple of entertainment shows! Needless to say, being bored wasn’t an option!
Service
From the moment we arrived to the resort until the moment we left, we were served with the utmost respect and care. Every worker or employee we encountered was overly friendly and would go out of their way to make sure we were taken care of. We were greeted upon arriving with a huge smile at the front desk and they did a great job at explaining things and making us feel at home. Room service was very friendly and on time with anything we asked for. Our waiters gave no grumble when asking for seconds, or thirds. Workers that were all around to take care of gardening or property upkeep never looked unhappy and would always make sure not to bother us. And to top that off the concierge was super helpful with any questions we had throughout the week. She even planned a surprise for us the last night and made our room more romantic. It was corny, but it’s the thought that counts!

Overall, we were beyond pleased and would highly recommend the resort to other honeymooners or even a couple planning a getaway. It made coming back to reality that much more tough. We can still feel the sunshine and taste our favorite pizza now!
